Dell has started taking orders for desktop and laptops with Ubuntu pre-installed. Congratulations to Canonical, Dell, and the Ubuntu Community. I have been considering getting the Inspiron E1505 N laptop, and I like what I see.

Dell Inspiron E1505 N

  • Intel® Pentium® dual-core proc T2080(1MB Cache/1.73GHz/533MHz FSB
  • Ubuntu Edition version 7.04
  • 15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife™(glossy)
  • 512MB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 DIMM
  • 80GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
  • 24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
  • 53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
  • Intel PRO/Wireless 3945a/g
  • Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950
  • Integrated Audio

I’m very glad they went with the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 and Intel PRO/Wireless 3945a/g. The rest of the Inspiron 1505 line uses a ATI X1400 card, which does have certain issues.

  1. The most obvious reason for this selection was for Video support under Linux as we have full HW specs available to make a completely compatible driver and take advantage of full 3D effects with beryl and compiz.

Kudos to Dell for seeing the obvious and using it.
